An Open Letter to the Members of the Kemp Mill Civic Association

I am today submitting to you my resignation as Treasurer of the Kemp Mill Civic Association.  A decent respect for the opinions of the members of the Association requires that I spell out to you why I am resigning.

As you may or may not know my recent election as Treasurer marks the third time I have been so honored by you to be Treasurer of the Association.  In my previous two terms I served with Bill Waller Ann Piety and George Teitlebaum.  Along the way Mame Templeton and Alan and Dawn Felsen aided and assisted us in administering the Association.

Originally, Bill Waller was not my first choice to be president of the Association.  Much to my surprise and delight he turned out to be a wonderful person with whom to work.  I found out that he was very insightful, honorable and was always able to provide the Association the leadership it very much needed.  Bill was even handed, even tempered and always able to do the right thing.  Bill always acted in the Association's best interest and with its integrity foremost in his mind.  In certain matters Bill and I were successful, in others less so.  Thus, Bill started the process that resulted in the paving of the right-of-way leading to the Kemp Mill Synagogue.  Bill was also instrumental in providing assistance to Don Schwartz to have the monopole moved away from nearby residences.  Additionally, he has started the clean-up on the island at Arcola and Lamberton and continues to be active in that process today.  Finally, when he and I were first elected we found the working capital of the Treasury to be in a parlous condition.  Today, through Bill's steady efforts I can proudly report that is no longer so.

In summary, after having worked with Bill for three years, I can say we established a very easy-going relationship based on trust and the underlying mutual respect we had for each other.  Indeed, it has been an unexpected pleasure to work with Bill Waller over the past three years.  In the most recent election, Bill was voted out of office and a new president elected. I have since concluded that the new president and I have differences that are deep and irreconcilable.  Thus, I am unable to function effectively as Treasurer, nor do I think I will be effective in contributing to the administering of the Association.  Also, I have to consider that the pay is not that great and the hours are too long.  All things considered, the Association deserves a Treasurer who can function effectively with the new president. I cannot and for that reason I am compelled to resign.

Again, it was an honor to serve you and it was an honor to be elected by you three times. All the best to you.
