KMCA Meeting Minutes, September 10, 2008

  • The treasurer reported that there are 198 members.
  • Selena Snow (Park and Recreation Ctte) reported that she has spoken to county about goose droppings in the park; they are trying to address it. The County has replaced a piece of broken equipment in the (Arcola) playground and is planning renovations to the Arcola park.
  • Jonathan Fink (Housing Ctte) reported that the committee is working to develop a toolkit on the KMCA website and in print regarding housing issues of concern to residents, what the county can do, and whom to contact. A prototype toolkit was handed out.
  • Josh Seidman (Transportation Ctte) stated he has talked to the county about painting new crosswalks and repainting existing ones. Regarding complaints about cars blocking sidewalks, KMCA can send a “good neighbor” letter in response to a citizen complaint, and if that doesn’t resolve the issues, can inform the complainant about how to contact the county. Regarding the new configuration (speedbumps, islands, bumpouts) the county is aware of concerns and will look into them. The County as referred that the driving speed on Arcola has dropped from 42 to 30 mph since changes. KMCA was never consulted for input on the Arcola changes.
  • Guest speaker Don Praisner, a member of the County Council, gave a presentation addressing economic issues facing the county, concerns about code enforcement, and infrastructure issues.
  • Guest speaker Lisa Patashkin Solomon, lisa@lisasolomonphotography.com  gave an update regarding the Wheaton Redevelopment Advisory Committee . She stated that redeveloping Wheaton is important, but expressed concerns about the County’s proposal to move the Arcola Ave. library to downtown Wheaton. She stated there are many meetings of the committee and of working groups that are open to the public. Marilyn Lawlor volunteered to attend the WRAC meetings on behalf of the KMCA.
